THE Manila Police District-Anti-Carnapping Unit yesterday announced the arrest of two suspects who stole a motorcycle the other night in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Chief Insp. Rizalino Ibay, chief of the MPD-ANCAR, identified the duo as Roberto Luna, 19, of Liko Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila, and Jeimi Mariquit, 40, with no known address.
Ibay said his men first arrested De Luna, after having been positively identified by witnesses as the one who stole a Kawasaki HD III motorcycle (UQ-5572) last Nov. 29. Said motorcycle is owned by one Orlando Dayao.
Investigation showed that Mariquit aided De Luna by tampering the chassis of the said motorcycle.
Ibay said when the incident happened at around 9 a.m, Dayao’s driver Dario Canezo was using the said motorcycle to deliver gas tanks and then parked it in front of a customer’s house. When Canezo went out, the motorcycle was gone and witnesses identified De Luna as the one who took it.
De Luna, he said, might have been planning to use the said motorcycle to ply his regular route since he is a tricycle driver.
On investigation, Ibay said Mariquit admitted having been paid by De Luna P1,500 to tamper the chassis of the stolen motorcycle, to avoid detection in case the police go after it.
The said motorcycle, meanwhile, was recovered although some of its parts have already been knocked down.
