MANILA, Philippines – Two policemen are facing criminal and administrative charges after figuring in separate shooting incidents that led to the death of two women over the weekend, a police official said on Wednesday.

Facing charges are Senior Police Officer 1 Julian Atienza, assigned at the Calamba City police station, and Police Officer 3 Roman Kasilag of Lipa City police station.

Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao, chief of Calabarzon police, said Atienza was the prime suspect in the killing of 29-year old Jennyfer Manaig after an argument over parking spaces. Pagdilao said that on the evening of October 31, Manaig was fixing her motorcycle in front of her home at Barangay (village) Halang in Calamba City when the shooting occurred. After a heated exchange with the victim, Atienza reportedly went to his car, took out his service firearm and shot her.

Manaig was rushed to the Pamana hospital and died while undergoing treatment as Atienza surrendered to authorities.

Meanwhile, Kasilag was tagged in the death of Roselle Malauan, 33, in Lipa City. Kasilag reportedly shot dead the victim while he was on board a motorcycle.

Senior Police Officer 1 Gerardo Mendoza and PO1 Celso Cuevas, both of Lipa City police station, were placed under restrictive custody after they witnessed the shooting.

Pagdilao said that the charges against Atienza and Kasilag would serve as a reminder to policemen in the region that it would not go easy even on its own men.
