A four-year-old child was killed while at least 11 were injured by gunfire during the New Year revelry in Metro Manila.

In Mandaluyong City, a four-year-old child died after being hit by a stray bullet, according to a report on dzBB radio. PO2 Jesus Visagre of the Mandaluyong City police said the child, initially identified as Ranjelo Nemor, was shot in the back while playing near the family home at Block 26 in Barangay Addition Hills. The child was rushed to the Mandaluyong Medical Center but could not be saved by doctors.

Police suspect the bullet may have come from a sumpak (homemade shotgun).

In Quezon City, one Dante Conji was hit by a stray bullet in the left leg while he was walking along Road 3, Project 6. The report said he felt pain in his leg and discovered it was due to a bullet wound. He was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Also in Quezon City, at least four people were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment, including two girls aged 7 and 2, who were shot in the head. One of the girls was in critical condition, dzBB’s Paulo Santos reported. The report added the stray bullet hit the girl’s roof.

Two more victims rushed to the EAMC were described as 18 and 31 years old.

Meanwhile, at least four injuries due to stray bullets were reported in Pasay City. One of the injured, Andrew Chua, was shot in the chest while celebrating the New Year along Tolentino Street. He was rushed to the San Juan de Dios Medical Center.

Three other stray bullet victims were brought to the Pasay City General Hospital for treatment.

In Manila, dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported two were brought to the Mary Johnston Hospital for stray bullet wounds. One of them was an 11-year-old girl who was hit in the arm, while the other, identified as Rogelio Garcia, was hit in the side of the body. — DVM, GMA News
