One person was killed while 32 others were wounded after armed men opened fire on, and burned two dump trucks carrying supporters of a mayoral bet in Zamboanga del Sur Wednesday.

Citing initial reports, radio dzXL said the incident occurred in Labangan town in Zamboanga del Sur, where the victims were on their way to attend a voters’ education lecture at the town hall.

The report said the dump trucks were carrying some 200 supporters of Liberal Party (LP) mayoral candidate Wilson Nandang, incumbent vice mayor of Zamboanga City.

Killed in the incident was dump truck driver Bakal Samal. The driver of the second dump truck, who was not immediately identified, was reported missing.

Police are not discounting the possibility that the incident was politically motivated.
