IBAAN, Batangas, Philippines—One man died and his brother was injured when they were shot by two gunmen for refusing to reveal their candidate for town mayor in the village of Munting Tubig here before dawn on election day, police said.
Chief Inspector Pablo Aguda, Ibaan police chief, identified the fatality as Ronnie Madera, 22. Wounded was his brother Regan, 18.
At around 1 a.m. Monday the gunmen knocked at the victims’ house to ask for the brothers’ choice for mayor.
The suspects insisted that the two vote for their endorsed candidate in exchange for P3,000.
Instead of answering the suspects’ question, the victims’ threw back the same questions to the armed men.
This prompted the suspects to shoot the victims several times. Ronnie died on the spot while Regan is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Probers said the brothers were supporters of incumbent Mayor Remegio Hernandez.
