A teacher and a teenager are now among the latest violators of the Commission on Elections’ gun ban, after they were caught with firearms in separate incidents in Quezon City Monday night.
The teacher, initially identified as Mr. Go, was arrested shortly after a confrontation with neighbors near his house on Urbano Street, radio dzBB reported Tuesday.
Go reportedly got irked when stones were hurled at his house at about 11 p.m. Monday. He went out of his house and accosted four neighbors who were having a drinking spree, accusing them of throwing the stones.
When the men denied his allegations and engaged him in a verbal tussle, Go reportedly drew out his 9-mm pistol and cocked it in front of them.
A neighbor, PO1 Richard Cruz, tried to pacify him but could not calm him down. A team of village watchmen eventually subdued Go and brought him to the local police precinct.
A check of Go’s firearm showed it was licensed but Go failed to show he had been exempted from the gun ban.
Under the gun ban that lasts until June 12, only law enforcers in full uniform and on duty are allowed to carry firearms outside their homes.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police arrested 18-year-old Jason de Guzman of Kabutihan Street in Barangay Batasan Hills for entering a house in the area but the homeowner managed to disarm him. —KG, GMA News
