CAMP Vicente Lim, Calamba City — A barangay captain and a rebel returnee were locked up in jail for possession of hand guns in Dolores and Burdeos towns, Quezon, last Saturday.
Newly-installed Calabarzon police director Chief Supt. Benito Estipona identified the arrested village chief as Danilo Tapalla, 52, of Bgy. Bayanihan, Dolores, and Domingo Plaza, a former rebel, of Bgy. Aluyon, Burdeos.
Calabarzon Police Public Information Officer Supt. Erwin Obale said Tapalla was accosted by the policemen based on the complaint of businessman Robert Alvero, of Bgy. Maligaya.
He said Tapalla threatened to harm Alvero using the said pistol for still unknown reasons at around 7 p.m.
For fear of his life, Alvero quickly called up the police station and sought assistance, he said.
Acting on the complaint, Obale said policemen responded but Tapalla quickly fled, prompting the lawmen to chase him.
When cornered, he said the visibly drunk barangay captain resisted by pulling out his pistol and pointing it at the lawmen but he was subdued by PO1 John Iranzo.
Tapalla is reportedly a political ally of Quezon Gov. David Suarez, who allegedly gave the cal. .45 pistol marked Armscor to the village chief.
In Burdeos, Plaza, a former communist rebel, was arrested by policemen after he was complained by his neighbor, Ana Fe Huerto, for indiscriminately firing a revolver in front of her house in Bgy. Poblacion, at around 6:30 p.m.
When arrested, Plaza yielded a home-made cal. .38 revolver and a fan knife.
It was learned that Plaza is a brother of Glicerio Plaza, alias Ka Vergel, who is the team leader of the New People’s Army’s Kilusang Sangay sa Platoon (KSPN) Balaraw operating in Northern Quezon.
During investigation, Obale said Tapalla and Plaza failed to show gun ban exemption permits. They were charged with violations of the Omnibus Election Code.
