PARANG, Maguindanao – The chairman of Barangay Magsaysay in Parang town, Maguindanao was wounded after he was shot by still unidentified gunmen Tuesday night.

According to Parang Police, victim Rogello Posadas Sr. was inside his resort when motorcycle-riding gunmen shot him several times.

Posadas sustained 2 gunshot wounds in his abdomen. His companion, a certain Roger Lampatan, was shot in the back.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack, but they suspect the incident is linked to the recently held elections.

“Maaaring may kinalaman nga itong katatapos lang na eleksyon, pero titingnan pa natin, ‘di pa masyadong malinaw…mag-iimbestiga pa tayo,” Senior Inspector Herry Gubat said.

Parang Mayor Ibrahim Ibay condemned the act, saying after the elections, barangay captains in his town have been receiving threats through text messages.

“Nakakatanggap daw sila ng pagbabanta, sinasabi nga daw na bilang na ang mga araw nila…particularly ‘yung mga kapitan na Christian. Paiimbestigahan natin ito,” Ibay said.

Earlier, Ibay called for a Municipal Peace and Order Council meeting to address the problem and strengthen investigations on the alleged threats.
