ANGELES City — A civilian asset of the Pampanga Criminal Investigation and Detection Team and a suspected member of an armed group was killed during a shootout in Barangay Amsic, here last Wednesday.
Chief Insp. Bienvenido Reydado, CIDT head, identified the slain asset as Narciso Mendoza, 48, who acted as the lawmen’s guide towards the suspected hideout in the squatters’ area of Bgy. Amsic.
The suspect, identified as Robert Coronel, alias Rubbie, 27, died while hiding in a house of his cohorts due to a gunshot wound.
Investigation showed the CIDT received information that a certain Rubbie was firing a cal. .45 pistol near his residence. When responding lawmen arrived to arrest him, he fired at them, hitting Mendoza in the body.
Mendoza was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
During the exchange of gunfires, Coronel was also hit but was able to run away with four cohorts.
The suspect, who died while trying to flee, was left by his cohorts, identified only as Aries, Rodel, Mike and Robert. But they took with them his cal. .45 pistol.
The four were able to escape.
