A POLICEMAN was shot and wounded while chasing three men on a motorbike for a traffic violation last Monday.
PO2 Sir Abatayo, 32, of the Mobile Patrol Group, was shot in the right torso and right arm.
He was later confined at a private hospital in Cebu City.
He and PO1 Munick Cabanero were patrolling the city when they saw three men on board a motorcycle without a plate number along S. Osmeña Street, barangay Mabolo.
Cabanero chased the three men who were not wearing crash helmets.
One of the riders fired a gun at them, hitting Abatayo.
Abatayo returned fire and gunshots were exchange.
At one point, Cabanero’s vehicle collided with the motorbike, which fell on the ground.
The policeman shot at one of the suspects, Daryl Bato, 19. The teenager was wounded in the left knee.
Baton, a resident of barangay Sabang, Danao City, later identified his two companions as Miguel Andrino, 21, of Sibonga town, and Aljun Bedun, also of Danao City.
Both companions fled. Baton was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.
Police are trying to track down the two other suspects. /correspondent CHITO ARAGON
