NAGA CITY, Philippines—(UPDATE) A radio reporter was wounded when two unidentified men shot him in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Friday night, police said Saturday.

Miguel Belen, 48, was shot by two unidentified gunmen in Barangay San Jose at around 8:45 p.m., said PO1 Jose Rejuador Cada, Nabua police investigator.

The victim was on a motorcycle and was tailed by his attackers, who were also riding a motorcycle.

Cada said Belen was returning home from work as a field reporter of the dwEB-FM radio station of Filipinas Broadcasting Network based in Nabua.

The shooting took place in a secluded part of San Jose, just three kilometers from the town proper.

Cada said Belen sustained gunshot wounds in the neck and torso and remained in critical condition at the Doña Josefa Hospital in nearby Iriga City.

He was also the former chairman of Barangay Francia in Iriga City.

Cada said the police recovered four empty .45-caliber shells at the crime scene.

He said investigators were eyeing politics as a possible motive for the shooting.

The Camarines Sur Provincial Police Office has assigned four police officers to guard the victim at the hospital.

Camarines Sur Rep. Salvio Fortuno (5th District) also suspected motives was the motive for the shooting.

“He was known as my supporter during the campaign. He had been receiving threats from the camp of my political opponent last elections,” he said.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said he would push for the resolution of the case in his capacity as secretary of the interior.
