AN election officer was shot dead by unidentified riding-in- tandem suspects yesterday morning in Matalam, North Cotabato.
Senior Insp. Elias Colonia, chief of police of Matalam, identified the victim as Ted Demonteverde, assistant election officer of Parang, Maguindanao.
The incident occurred at 9 a.m. on the national highway in Bgy. Manuban.
The victim was seated at the back of a multicab on his way to Poblacion, Matalam, when the incident happened.
Investigators said the Kawasaki motorcycle-riding suspects tailed the vehicle and shot the victim repeatedly.
The victim died on the spot while the suspects quickly fled.
Colonia said they are looking into politics as possible motive behind the killing based on the statement given by the victim’s family.
“Base sa pahayag ng pamilya niya, ’yun ang tinitingnan natin, meron daw nagalit sa kanya na natalo sa election,” he said.
He said the suspect took nothing from the victim and even said to other passengers that they are not included in their mission.
