COTABATO CITY, Philippines—Two unidentified gunmen shot dead Tuesday an official of the Land Transportation Office for Central Mindanao while he was about to report for work in Koronadal City, police said.
Perfecto “Boy” Raagas Jr, deputy director for administration of LTO-12, sustained one gunshot wound in the neck and died while being treated at a private hospital.
Senior Superintendent Nilo Wong, South Cotabato police director, said Raagas had just arrived at the LTO regional office on Bonifacio Street on board his Strada pick-up when two men approached him and one of them opened fire, using .45 pistol.
“There was no struggle, he was shot at close range,” Wong said in a radio interview.
LTO employees rushed him to the hospital where he died at 2 p.m. due to complications.
Quoting witnesses, Wong said the two gunmen were seen loitering in the car park of the LTO office as early as 8 a.m.
When Raagas arrived from his hometown in Pikit, North Cotabato, the gunmen, who were believed to be hired killers by the police, approached him and shot him dead.
The hitmen fled using a motorcycle.
The Koronadal City police are still investigating the motive for the killing of Raagas.
