A 29-YEAR-OLD laborer was killed by his stepfather-farmer whom he challenged for a fight in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Saturday.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman, said Orlando Sanchez, 49, allegedly shot to death Virgil Resoriaga.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. of Maundy Thursday at Sitio Leop in the village of Dapitan City, Huesca said.

Investigation showed that Resoriaga, armed with an 18-inch bolo and believed to be under the influence of liquor, went to the Sanchez’ house and challenged the suspect to a fight, he said.

Resoriaga immediately hacked Sanchez in the back when the latter, armed with a caliber .22 rifle, went out of his house in response to the challenge of his stepson, he said.

The wounded Sanchez managed to fire back hitting Resoriaga in the chest, the police said.

Sanchez was rushed to the hospital for treatment, citing the motive was misunderstanding, the police added. (Bong Garcia)
