A 41-year-old laborer was stabbed dead by a vendor the other night in Tondo, Manila while his younger brother was wounded, when he refused to lend the ‘dividendazo’ or horse-racing guide he was holding.
Bonifacio Cerdena, of Pacheco Street in Tondo, was killed instantly while his brother Freddie, 30, sustained a wound in the hand. Benjamin Depano Jr., 52, of D-23 Rawis Compound in Tondo and Aldrin Santos, 20, a machine operator, fled after the incident and are now being hunted down by the police.
SPO2 Ronald Gallo of the Manila Police District -Homicide Section said the incident happened at around 9:45 p.m. at the corner of Coral and Sta. Fe Streets in Tondo.
The victim and the suspect were both awaiting race results when the suspect tried to borrow his dividendazo. The victim refused and while this led to a heated exchange, the two went home .
However, when they returned to the same place later, they were both already armed with knives.
Upon seeing each other, Santos tried to stab the victim but was stopped by the other bettors.
When one of the spectators dared the suspects and the victims to use bare hands, they threw their knives. Santos’ companion Depano took advantage of the situation, took one of the knives and with it stabbed the vitim.
Freddie tried to shield his brother but was stabbed in the hand.
