ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 1, 2013) – Gunmen shot dead a tricycle driver in an attack Tuesday in Lamitan City in the restive province of Basilan in the southern Philippines, police said. It said victim was driving his tricycle when gunmen attacked him. Police is eyeing family feud as likely motive for the attack. The killing occurred just a day after gunmen also lobbed a grenade on a police detachment in Lamitan. Two policemen were wounded in the blast, but the motive of the attack is still unknown. Police said two men on motorcycle tossed the fragmentation grenade as they passed by the detachment. No individual or group claimed responsibility for both attacks, but family feud or clan war is not uncommon in Basilan, which is part of the Muslim autonomous region. Gun attacks and killings are also common in the province, just several nautical miles south of Zamboanga City. (Mindanao Examiner) |
