CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Three grenades and several high-powered firearms such as Uzi shotgun and Armalite, short firearms, and thousands of live ammunition were among those seized from simultaneous raids in houses of suspected members of private armed groups (PAGs) in Ilocos Norte and Sur on Wednesday.

Chief Superintendent Ricardo Marquez, Region 1 police director, said all these were seized in simultaneous raids conducted by regional special operations task groups (RSOTG) and the regional intelligence division when they carried out search warrants in the towns of Marcos, Nueva Era and Badoc, Ilocos Norte; and Sinait town in Ilocos Sur.

Marquez said the raids in the houses of Jay-ar Pambid and Ronnie Icalla in Badoc town yielded one grenade each, a caliber . 22 revolver and several live ammunition, and empty shells for short firearms such as cal. 45, cal. 38, 9mm, and Cal. 357.

Police operatives also found one caliber .45 pistol with six live ammunition in a separate search at the house of Hanley Ines Tapuro in Barangay Teppeng, Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

A raid at the house of Felicito Revilla in Nueva Era town resulted to the seizure of one Uzi, a cal. 38 revolver, and a shotgun with several rounds of ammunition and firearm gadgets.

Other raids conducted against Jessie Ermitanio at his residences in Barangay Elizabeth and at Barangay Lydia in Nueva Era town resulted to the confiscation of a cal. 45 pistol, a baby Armalite, a cal. 22 revolver, and several ammunition and magazines for different firearms.

Meanwhile, the raid at the house of Joey Sia, also in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte, resulted in the seizure of a live hand grenade and an unregistered Black Honda motorcycle, which was among those taken into custody by policemen.

Arrested suspects and the evidences seized were all taken to Camp Juan in Laoag City and in Camp President Quirino in Ilocos Sur while charges for violation of Republic Act 8294 or Illegal possession of firearms and violation of the election gun ban are now being prepared against the suspects.
