A FORMER COUNCILOR of a town in Bulacan province died after he was shot while having breakfast at a fastfood outlet in Quezon City early Saturday morning.
Jose Vladimir Lava, 40, and a resident of Barangay San Jose, Bulacan, Bulacan, was rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center for emergency surgery, but died at around 11 a.m.
Insp. Norman Cristobal, of the Kamuning police station, said the man sustained four gunshot wounds in the back.
The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m. at the Jollibee restaurant at the corner of Scout De Guia Street and Tomas Morato Avenue, Barangay Laging Handa.
Police believe the victim was shot with a cal. 45 pistol since four spent shells of the same caliber were found in the crime scene.
Cristobal said there were two male suspects in the shooting: The gunman, described as between 20 and 25 years old and wearing a white shirt and jeans, and another man with a black helmet who drove a Honda XRM motorcycle they used as their getaway vehicle.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting. Cresanto de la Peña, 32, a nephew of the victim, said they were waiting for their uncle, Francisco Lava, because they would later proceed to a hospital to visit a friend confined in the facility.
The gunman had positioned himself outside the restaurant, fired at the victim and then casually boarded a motorcycle along Scout De Guia Street driven by another man.
Witnesses told police that the suspects were seen turning toward Scout Chuatoco Street.
De la Peña then sought the assistance of the restaurant’s staff and barangay watchmen in rushing his uncle to the hospital.
