DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite – A De La Salle University (DLSU) medical student was shot dead on midnight, Thursday, by a still unidentified suspect with a .45 caliber pistol in a room of Casa Isabel Dormitory-Villa Nicasia in Barangay Burol Main here, police said on Friday.
The victim, one Mark Joseph N. Oliveros, sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.
The gunman fled after the attack.
Oliveros was a 4th year student of DLSU-Health Science Institute in Dasmariñas and a stay-in occupant of Casa Isabel’s Room No. 14.
Case Investigator Police Officer II Ronaldo Abas said that the shooting happened in Oliveros’ room at 12:30 am Thursday.
Abas, citing the report of his roommates, said that shots rang out after they heard Oliveros having an argument with the suspect.
The identity of the gunman and the motive of the shooting have yet to be ascertained.
A Scene of the Crime Operation team led by Senior Inspector Fernando Perilla recovered three .45 cal. shells at the crime scene.
Supt. Joseph B. Peñaflor, Dasmariñas police officer-in-charge, ordered a thorough investigation of the incident.
It was the third fatal shooting attacks in the city in just a span of four days. The two other incidents, whose victims are a retired Navy officer and a policeman, remained unsolved, it was gathered.
Meanwhile, a man was shot and seriously wounded by his own brother following an argument last Thursday in Barangay Molino, Naic town.
The victim, one Juaning O. Memije, 30, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was brought to Naic Doctors Hospital.
Officer-on-case PO1 Reiniel Legaspi said that Memije was shot by elder brother Crisanto, a barangay (village) investigator, as they were arguing in the area at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Crisanto fled on board a tricycle after the shooting. The incident was reported to the police station by their 46-year-old sister Angelina.
Police are now looking for Crisanto.
