CAMP GENERAL ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — A highway chase from the municipality of Obando to the city of Meycauayan, this province, ended in a shootout between police and an alleged member of the “Dominguez Carnapping Group.”
Senior Superintendent Edgardo G. Tinio, Highway Patrol Group Region 3 (HPG-3) chief, said the suspect, Edwin Villa Madrigal, 36, of Valenzuela City, was killed in the encounter.
In his report to Chief Supt. Espina, Philippine National Police-HPG director, Tinio said his men took Madrigal to the Sta. Clara Montefalco Hospital after the shootout but was declared dead on arrival.
Prior to the chase, Tinio’s men foiled the alleged plan of Madrigal’s group to steal a luxury car owned by a public official in Meycauyan.
Madrigal, who was drove away in his silver Toyota Rav 4 (XMH-917) to elude arrest, shot it out with pursuing lawmen.
The gang to which Madrigal allegedly belongs is notorious for a series of robbery-holdup, carjacking and hijacking incidents in Central Luzon and Metro Manila, said Tinio.
He said Madrigal was pinpointed by several carnap victims from Pampanga as among the armed men who stole their vehicles.
Madrigal was reportedly a brother of Randy Madrigal, alleged leader of the busted “Enduro Gang” who was killed in a shootout with lawmen few years ago. The said group was known for stealing motorcycles.
