MUNAI, Lanao del Norte — A police officer belonging to Marawi City police was killed while a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander was seriously injured in an early morning ambush in Sitio Matampay 1, Old Poblacion, Munai in Lanao del Norte on Sunday.

Colonel Ricardo Jalad, commanding officer of 2nd Mechanize Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that the victims were on board a black pickup truck and on their way to attend a “kanduri,” a thanks giving celebration, in Barangay Tambo.

The victims were identified as Police Officer Cadi Nur Muto Jr. the driver of the pickup and Commander Jabbar Lucsadato of MILF. Lucsadato is seriously wounded, while Muto Sr. was safe and unharmed.

The suspects were identified as Baunto Muto and two his sons who fled and escaped after the ambush.

Jalad said the operations and manhunt of the suspects are still going on.

The motive of the ambush has been attributed to a family feud “rido.”

The immediate family brought the victims in one of the hospitals in Iligan City, but Muto Jr. was declared dead on arrival while Jabbar Lucsadato has been treated for his wounds.
