ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police investigators have tagged a policeman and an ex cop as the suspects who shot and killed the brother-in-law of a city councilor along with his wife near the Talon Talon Elementary School, some five kilometers from city hall shortly after 3:00 Wednesday afternoon.
The police identified the victims as Francisco “Boy” Natividad and his wife Myra Paragas. Francisco is the brother-in-law of City Councilor Rey Candido of Tetuan, a barangay adjacent to Talon Talon.
Tetuan Police Precinct Commander Chief Inspector Elmer Acuna identified one of the gunmen as ex-policeman Julhambri Sabturani. A police team is hunting down Sabturani in some of his known hideouts in this city.
Inspector Acuna declined to name the other suspect but said he is an policeman still in the force and now assigned to Basilan Province.
This second suspect presented himself at the police precinct at Tetuan, to clear his name when he learned that witnesses mentioned his name. He was disarmed by policemen there and advised not to leave the place.
Acuna said several witnesses identified the suspects by name, because they personally know the suspects.
Witnesses said the victims were just standing by the roadside when the gunman rode by and shot the couple.
The victims fell with multiple gunshot wounds caused by bullets fired from a caliber 45 and nine millimeter pistols used by the gunmen who both escaped on board a motorcycle.
The wounded victims died before arrival at the Zamboanga City Medical Center from their bullet wounds.
The police said robbery could be the motive of the killings as the gunman grabbed the bag of money of the couple before speeding away. The bag was said to contain P10,000 pesos.
The couple was in the area to collect daily loans from store and stall owners of a nearby wet market. (PNA)
