LAGUNA, Philippines – An incumbent city councilor was shot dead while his driver was wounded when they were ambushed by still-unidentified suspects in Biñan City Monday afternoon, police said.
Superintendent Joel Pernito, Biñan police chief, identified the fatality as city councilor Diego Casas of Juvilation Subdivision, Barangay Zapote, Biñan City.
Wounded was the driver of Casas identified as Luisito Caipan, 45 of Barangay Malamig also in Biñan City. He is now recuperating at Perpetual Help Hospital due to bullet wounds.
According to a report, Casas and Caipan were on their way home aboard a Toyota Revo when they were waylaid by 2 armed men riding in tandem just a few hundred meters away from the councilor’s residence around 5:10 p.m..
Police said the suspects escaped after the incident and are now the subject of a manhunt.
Pernito said the 2 victims were rushed to the hospital but Casas died after a few hours in the emergency room due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Police have yet to determine the motive and the people behind the shooting incident.
