THREE alleged car thieves shot dead a rookie policeman shortly after they tried to steal a businessman’s car in Quezon City Friday night.
PO1 Efren Acoba, Jr., 26, of 54 Virginia St., Barangay Gulod, Quezon City, sustained multiple gunshot wounds from a caliber 9mm pistol and was declared dead on arrival at the Quezon City General Hospital. Case investigator PO2 Jogene Hernandez said the policeman was killed by the suspects aboard a stolen red Honda City (ZCA-573) at 10 p.m. in Mindanao Avenue. Hernandez said that trader Wendel Lewis Ramos, 33, of 25 Fort Santiago St., Bago Bantay, was hurt in the incident. Ramos suffered a head injury after being hit with the butt of a handgun by one of the suspects. His car was recovered after it was abandoned by the suspects following the shooting of Acoba. Ramos told police that he and his friend, Cathy Santos, were on their way to deliver chicken meat to a store in Barangay Pagasa when his car was forcibly taken from him by the suspects. He had just parked his car in the area when the suspects appeared. The suspects boarded his vehicle and sped off. The suspects were stuck in traffic in Mindanao Avenue where they encountered the motorcycle-riding policeman who was on his way home from work. Thinking that Acoba was after them, one of the suspects got out of the car and repeatedly shot the lawman. They decided to abandon the stolen car and escaped on foot. |
