Nearly two months after a New Year’s Eve stray bullet killed a seven-year-old, a 17-year-old student was shot and wounded by a stray bullet in his house in Caloocan City before dawn Tuesday.

John de Guzman Galang, a graduating high school student, was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City after being shot in the head by the stray round, radio dzBB’s Rodil Vega reported.

Glang’s mother said the household was asleep in their home at Phase 8 in Bagong Silang when a shot rang out and John was seen holding his bloodied head.

Police are trying to trace the source of the stray bullet.

Last January, seven-year-old Stephanie Nicole Ella was struck by a stray bullet while she was watching New Year’s Eve fireworks outside her house also in Caloocan City.

Stephanie Nicole died from her injuries the next day. Her death triggered public outrage and debates on gun control. — DVM, GMA News
