PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur — A member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) was killed by more or less four armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Purok 12, Barangay Awao, Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur on Friday afternoon.
The Cafgu member identified as Danilo Bacudan was with a certain Darwen Laspinas when held at gunpoint by the NPAs. They were told that they will not be killed if they will not run while at the vicinity of Purok 12.
Bacuda, however, ran toward his residence, prompting the rebels to shoot him. He was hit on his right leg, according to reports.
The rebels also shoot him repeatedly as he continued to run, although wounded. This time, Bacuda was hit on his head, causing his instantaneous death.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident that resulted in the death of one of our Cafgu members assigned in our area of responsibility. Allow me to express my sympathy and condolences to the family and loved ones of CAA Bacudan. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort and solace that we in the 401st Infantry Brigade will continue to conduct our mission in rounding up these NPA criminals in the soonest possible time,” said Colonel Romeo G. Gan, commander of the 401st Infantry “Unity” Brigade.
Gan said Bacudan was off duty when shot by the rebels.
