CEBU, Philippines – A 13-year-old boy dies in the hospital after shot by five alleged members of a gang called “Crips” during a benefit dance in Mabolo, Cebu City last Friday dawn.
Police said the victim died at the Cebu City Medical Center last Sunday, or about two days after the incident happened which was believed to be due to mistaken identity.
Two of the five suspects, aged 17 and 15, both residents of Barangay Carreta, were arrested but their companions, who are identified as certain Marjun, Tatan, and Dungkal eluded arrest.
According to a 15-year-old informant, he was attending a disco when he heard successive bursts of gunfire and when he verified the origin, he saw the victim being chased by the suspects.
One of the assailants allegedly continued shooting the victim using an unknown caliber of gun until a few meters away, the victim slumped to the ground bleeding while shouting for help.
The victim, who was hit on his back, was taken by the informant and his neighbors to the hospital while two of the suspects were arrested by responding policemen from Mabolo Police Station.
During an investigation, police learned the victim was not a member of any gang and may have been only mistaken by the suspects as a member of their rival group.
In a similar incident, police arrested one Cleofel Mella, an alleged “Bloods” member who was tagged in the shooting to death of Leonel dela Cerna in Lorega San Miguel also on Friday.
Dela Cerna died at the hospital due to a fatal gunshot wound to the chest while the suspect was arrested last Sunday on M.J. Cuneco Avenue, Barangay Tinago where he allegedly went into hiding.
Mella was positively identified by two eyewitnesses as the one who shoot the victim. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
