CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – The vice mayor of Talisay in Batangas was critically wounded while his security aide was killed when unidentified men fired on them while the local official was burying his father at the town’s cemetery before noon on Saturday, police said.

Vice Mayor Florencio Manimtim sustained a still undetermined number of wounds in the body and was rushed to City Reyes Hospital, said Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas police public information officer.

The identity of Manimtim’s bodyguard was not immediately available.

Ronquillo said Manimtim was attending his father’s funeral at the Talisay public cemetery when they were attacked at around 11:30 a.m.
