SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur – A Barangay Chairman in this progressive town of Agusan del Sur province was gunned down before his horrified son and family worker Tuesday morning by two unidentified gunmen at Barangay Macopa, San Francisco town, police reported on Wednesday.
Supt. Martin M. Gamba, regional police spokesman, identified the victim as Domingo Biol Amparo, 50, Barangay Chairman of Macopa here.
The barangay leader was shot three times in his head and body.
Quoting the flash report from San Francisco Municipal Police Station (MPS), Supt. Gamba said the barangay leader was visiting his smoke house that is used for drying harvested coconuts (copra) when was shot at close range by the two unidentified armed men Tuesday morning at Barangay Macopa here.
The son of the victim, Jeriel Anting Amparo and the smoke house’s caretaker Michael Chavet Labago were at the scene when the shooting incident happened, said Supt. Gamba, based on the flash report from San Francisco MPS.
Gamba said the witnesses could only describe the suspects outfit as medium built, 5’2” to 5’6” in height and ages 22-25 years old but could not identify them.
Both suspects simply approached the barangay chairman and shot him three times, police report said.
Amparo was rushed to the nearby hospital here but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physicians.
San Francisco MPS is yet to identify the weapon used and could not discount the possibility that the shooting is perpetrated by some lawless elements in the area.
Investigation is still ongoing.
