MANILA, Philippines–Seven members of the Philippine National Police’s elite unit were killed and several others were wounded following an alleged ambush in Cagayan province Monday morning, police said. Inspector Cesar Orlanes, Cagayan police spokesman, said seven members of the Special Action Force were killed when a landmine exploded as the unit were traveling at Barangay (village) Cataratan in Allacapan towards the city proper around 8:30 a.m. Orlanes quoted a radio report as saying that the suspects, numbering roughly 30 men, then opened fire at the policemen after the explosion, injuring seven others.
