Two of seven gunmen who robbed a rice and copra trading shop in Tigaon town in Camarines Sur Sunday morning were killed by pursuing lawmen, police said Monday.
Shopkeeper Joy Sanoy told police that at around 9 a.m., the robbers entered the shop and held her at gunpoint and carted away P300,000 cash, a laptop, portable TV and cellphone.
Police and National Bureau of Investigation agents pursued the gunmen and caught up with them at around 1:30 p.m. in Barangay (village) Tambo, Pamplona, Camarines Sur, said Senior Police Officer 4 Romy Fabiano, spokesman of the Camarines Sur Provincial Police Office.
The suspects, however, fired at the pursuing lawmen and a gunbattle ensued. Two gunmen were killed in the shootout while the five others escaped.
Police identified the slain gunmen as Roberto Nazareth and Raymond Namadrid. Recovered from them were a machine gun, one KG9 with a 9 mm magazine, a hand grenade, and the laptop and cellphone.
