Two suspected pickpockets were arrested for allegedly stealing the mobile phone of a TV network employee at a Metro Rail Transit station in Quezon City.
The two suspects, Michael dela Cerna, 31, and Fernando Sicsic, 43, both of Barangay Batasan Hills, were jailed at the Kamuning Police Station for theft.
They were arrested based on the complaint of Ryan Soyosa, 27.
The incident happened at the MRT station on Quezon Avenue at around 12:15 p.m. Friday as Soyosa, a news producer of TV5, was alighting from the train.
Case investigator PO2 Jason Darriguez said the victim, a resident of Pasay City, was getting off from the northbound train when Dela Cerna, Sicsic and a third pickpocket targeted him.
The suspects conspired with one another to fish Soyosa’s iPhone5 worth P40,000 from the right front pocket of his pants.
Seconds later, the victim realized that his earphones, which were connected to his mobile phone, had suddenly went silent.
Soyosa immediately sought help from a security guard, who managed to hold back Dela Cerna and Sicsic who were tagged by other passengers as the possible culprits.
Security personnel brought the victim and the suspects to the MRT station at Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City. There, the two men confessed to having stolen the victim’s iPhone5.
Soyosa eventually got back his mobile phone that afternoon while theft charges are being readied against the suspects. Melnie Ragasa-Jimena
