A 27-YEAR-OLD mall employee was shot dead by two unidentified men while walking on Butuanon Bridge in Barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City yesterday morning.
The police identified the victim as Jeboy Papillero, a native of Toledo City who lived in Barangay Bakilid, Mandaue.
Papillero, a promodiser at Pacific Mall in Barangay Ibabao, died on the spot after one of the suspects shot him in the head.
According to the police, Papillero was walking toward the mall past 6 a.m. when he noticed the suspects who rode a motorcycle were following him.
The victim tried to avoid the suspects, but he was shot on the bridge by the rider who got off the vehicle. The victim died on the spot while the suspects then fled.
Police investigators said the attack may have been motivated by a drug-related conflict.
Hours before the attack, the victim received threats on his cellular phone. One text message, sent at 3:42 a.m., read: “Pagbantay bantay unya Boy kay lahi baya ko maningil. ”
He received a similar threat a few minutes before the shooting. The incident caused traffic congestion in the area.
Tricycle driver
In a separate attack, a man was also shot and killed in Sitio Laray, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City at 7 p.m. last Wednesday.
Homicide investigators identified the victim as 50-year-old Antonio “Onyot” Badayos Dasmariñas, a tricycle driver.
According to the investigation of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, Dasmariñas was driving his tricycle when the gunman shot him in the head.
The tricycle driven by Dasmariñas swerved and headed to the nearby canal.
The gunman allegedly fled on foot.
SPO4 Rey Cuyos of the Homicide Section said his team is still investigating on the motive in the killing.
Cuyos said that according to the initial information he gathered, Dasmariñas figured in an argument about a week ago.
He said the Homicide Section will investigate if the previous argument has something to do with Dasmariñas’ death.
