A suspected robber and a computer technician were gunned down in separate encounters with police in Manila on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Police shot dead one of two motorcycle-riding men who were allegedly robbing an Indian national Wednesday, radio dzBB’s Cecilia Villarosa reported.
Manila Police District Station 5 head Superintendent Ferdinand Quirante said a team from the Metro Manila police’s Regional Police Intelligence Unit was passing through the area when it noticed the robbery along San Marcelino Street.
He said that as the police team approached, the two men allegedly fired at them, prompting the police to fire back.
One of the suspects was killed while the other was wounded and rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila for treatment.
1 killed, 1 wounded Tuesday night
Meanwhile, a computer technician was killed while his companion was wounded after they figured in an alleged shootout with policemen in Manila Tuesday night.
Relatives of the fatality, initially identified as Jimboy Hadani, suspect he was set up by the police, according to a report on dzBB radio earlier Wednesday.
The report said patrolling members of the Manila Police District accosted Hadani and his companion but Hadani allegedly drew a handgun that supposedly triggered the shootout.
A separate report on “Saksi” said Hadani was with one Lando Lim near Paraiso ng Batang Maynila park in Barangay 721 when police accosted them for allegedly acting suspiciously.
Lim was injured in the shooting and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Recovered from Hadani was a cal-.22 handgun. Found at the scene were shells from cal-.45 and 9-mm handguns.
“Sensing na yung ato ay bumunot ng baril, ang pulis ko PO1 Paul Bermudes, binunot ang baril at nakipag-trade shots (When my personnel PO1 Paul Bermudes sensed the two were drawing firearms, he drew his own firearm and traded shots with them),” said Superintendent Rolando Tumulad, commander of the Manila Police District’s Station 11.
But the “Saksi” report quoted Hadani’s relatives as saying he was merely a computer technician who was in Manila to make arrangements for his employment abroad.
They said he had been in Manila for only two months. “Mabait na bata yan (He was a good person),” they said. — ELR, GMA News
