MANILA – A police officer and a civilian were killed in a shootout in Alabang, Muntinlupa Monday night.

Three people were also wounded in the incident, which Muntinlupa Police said was an operation by the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).

Investigations showed that two cops in civilian clothes on board a motorcycle, SPO1 Aniceto Santiago and SPO1 Macario Romano, shot and killed a certain Michael Maranan, who is the alleged target of the operation.

Maranan was then speaking with PO3 Mersal Rapirap, who fired back at Santiago and Romano.

Maranan and Romano were killed while Santiago was wounded.

Two bystanders, including 10-year-old Heart Macapagal, were wounded.

Macapagal is in critical condition at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.

Maranan’s family, meanwhile, condemned the incident and asked why non-uniformed cops fired at him instead of arresting him. Maranan is allegedly involved in stolen motorcycles.

Maranan’s family is planning to file charges against the PNP-HPG.

Police declined to comment while investigations are ongoing.
