A MAN was killed while two others, including a cop, were wounded in a grenade explosion the other day in Baler, Aurora.

The fatality was identified as Jay Novicio Cuento, 37, of Bgy. 4, Baler.

Taken to Aurora Provincial Hospital was PO1 Rommel Castañeda Gonzales, married, assigned at Baler Police Station, while Joel Montemayor Querijero, 33, single, was rushed to Cabanatuan City Hospital. Both are from Bgy. Pingit, Baler.

Reports said the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. in Purok 5, Bgy. Pingit.

Investigators said the victims were having drinking spree when one Jeffrey Porbido Mercado, 22, joined them and brought a rifle grenade.

Jeffrey placed the rifle grenade on a table when Jay accidentally dropped the grenade which exploded, leaving the victim dead and two others injured.

The Aurora  Provincial Crime Laboratory  found pieces of fragments of the rifle grenade and blood stains at the scene.

Authorities are now conducting follow-up investigation into the incident.
